About me:
I’ve had a lifelong interest in programming, but began seriously studying it way later than I should have. As a kid I was fascinated with the idea of game creation software, and distinctly remember trying to assemble a character creation menu in a multimedia authoring program because I was inspired by The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. I was also able to create my own small map and program my own boss enemy in Megazeux. I was so happy this worked that I didn’t take up any kind of programming again until I went to technical college. There, I went through a Visual Basic course, fell in love with the whole act of creating something I could use and improve, and then proceeded to stop programming again for over a decade.
When I finally decided to take programming seriously, I got my start working through Crash Course in Python, and then a self-directed Udemy web development bootcamp. By then I was a lot wiser, and since then I’ve worked hard to build my skills every day, learning more Python, picking up SQL and working with Javascript, and recently, diving into C#/.NET. After working several years with business intelligence and data engineering topics, that’s become another way for me to build software that other people can use. I dunno where this AI business will eventually take us, but I’m invested in picking up skills there as well, and working to improve my ability to design systems and solve problems.
In my free time, I enjoy developing my skills in traditional art, reading philosophy and personal development books, playing tabletop games and listening to jazz and electronic music. In the past I’ve also practiced some jiu-jitsu and indoor rock climbing, and I always like visiting interesting historical places and having good meals with friends. I guess there’s some video games in there too, they probably don’t allow people to be software developers unless you do that too.
